Some people run to maintain their fitness level. Some run to prove a point. But some rare ones run because it makes them.
Mufaddal Hararwala was one such rare person.
He didn’t run just for a hobby. It was a lifestyle for him. Each step he took, each early morning, each kilometre, each finish line reminded him that success always requires persistence.
It wasn’t his capacity to cover large distances that distinguished him, but rather the determination that he possessed. He used to believe that progress doesn’t come from racing but from persisting. Progress is the greatest race we all have to run, the race against ourselves, our fears and limitations.
Discipline and resilience are among the qualities of his character remembered by those who knew him. Consistency and patience were the qualities that running instilled in him.
Even long before many of us thought about motivation and dreaming big, he had already said everything that needed to be said in his poem that reflected his views about life.
Stars in My Eyes
By Mufaddal Hararwala
Stars in my eyes
Dreams in my heart
Every day I go after something
Which I know I will never reach soon
But strive I must
As Life throbs inside me
So with every heartbeat I push
Waiting for the tide to turn
And soon the day will come
Which I will call my own
For my dreams are so full of yearning
And strive every day I must
These lines transcend poetry; they reveal the essence of the man he was.
He understood that dreams rarely come true in a single moment, but persisted in his efforts. He knew success belongs to those who keep taking one more step, one more breath, one more mile.
Even today, his words continue to inspire, reminding us that failures are temporary, hope endures, and determination can conquer all obstacles.
Though he is no longer with us, his legacy lives on—not only through the races he competed in but also through the lives he touched, the values he upheld, and the dreams he sparked.
Every runner leaves footprints on the road, and Mufaddal Hararwala left his mark on people’s hearts.
Perhaps that is the greatest finish line for any person.
With heartfelt respect for Mufaddal Hararwala—a runner, a dreamer, a poet, and an inspiring spirit.
